ISC Global

International Student Exchange Coordinator (formerly youth volunteer), Oct 2018-present · Michigan & Missouri, U.S. (hybrid)

At a glance

  • Assist in F-1 and J-1 exchange programs for a nonprofit formerly on the U.S. Department of State Advisory Lists (isckorea.net)
  • Pre-departure orientations and year-long Zoom check-ins for about 10 exchange students each year
  • Year-round communication among students, host schools, and local coordinators
  • Organized cultural-exchange visits by two North Korean defectors to U.S. schools (May 2019): travel, homestays, community Q&A
  • Represented the organization at the 34th Annual Council on Standards for International Educational Travel Conference (2018) in Alexandria, VA
  • Initiates and manages partnerships with supplemental learning programs such as Lumiere Education, including contract review each cycle

At first, as a young student myself, helping other students navigate the same cultural and linguistic barriers I had once faced was incredibly rewarding. Learning firsthand about the policies and organizational structures behind international student exchange, as well as the extensive discussion, paperwork, coordination, and cultural awareness required of each CSIET organization, was truly eye-opening.
